Algirdas Lipstas

Algirdas Lipstas is deputy director of the Open Society Media Program.

He is a graduate of the Journalism Department of Vilnius University in Lithuania. As a student, he was editor of Vilnius University student newspaper and continued in this job for a couple of years after graduation. In 1989, he became deputy editor-in-chief of the youth weekly Forumas, also writing for several Lithuanian and foreign publications.

In the early 90’s he became acting director and later a deputy director of the Open Society Fund-Lithuania while at the same time being in charge of several of the Fund’s program areas, including media. He actively participated in establishing Lithuanian Journalism Centre. In 1997 he joined OSI Media Program as a project manager in charge of journalism training projects, which are still a part of his portfolio. He was promoted to deputy director in 2005.
