Jay Ward Brown

Jay Ward Brown is Senior Claims Counsel for North America for the Technology Media & Telecoms Division of Hiscox. He joined Hiscox, a Lloyd’s London syndicate, in 2007 to help open the company’s TMT claims operations in the United States and provide leadership in connection with the company’s growing relationship with news, entertainment and “new media” insureds in the U.S. Prior to joining Hiscox, Mr. Brown was a partner in Levine Sullivan Koch & Schulz, where he specialized in the defense of news and entertainment companies in content, newsgathering and intellectual property matters, and represented media insurance carriers in connection with such claims. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Brown produced award-winning public affairs programming for public television under his journalistic mentor, the late Fred W. Friendly. He obtained his law degree cum laude from New York University and, earlier, a master’s degree with honors in journalism from Columbia University. He has taught media law at the University of Maryland College of Journalism and at Trinity College in Washington, D.C., and has authored numerous articles on media law, insurance and related issues. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Communications Law and on the Board of Trustees of the Media Law Resource Center Institute.
